An untold story of Laika - The space dog

Race to space:

   

                      A time were many countries shows their power by weapons, atom bombs, different inventions, etc. But America and Russia are both have equal powers, so they decided to develop something new and as a part of this, both countries were planned to send humans to space, and Russia make a first step to reach space by launching a dog into space.

                       

                      On November 3,1957 Russia launched a dog called Laika, she was a ordinary street dog roaming in Moscow city, Russian scientists give training for nearly 50 dogs and Laika was selected to send into space. The calmness and small size of Laika made her to launch into the space. The aim of this launch is to know whether humans can survive in space.

                       This was a one way mission so that there was no chance to return back the Laika to the Earth, the mission was designed in that way. Scientists says that it can survive atleast 10 days on space (i.e) they dogs can survive upto 10 days without food and water. 

On the launch day:

                      Laika was normal during the launch and scientists moved her into the capsule and get ready for a launch and as per the plan everything was good. Sputnik-2 carries the Laika and reach the space, the rocket rolls 5 times and connects the Earth's orbit. But unfortunately after 2 hours the cooling system was failed and the temperature increases, now the capsule is behaves like a microwave ovens and Laika couldn't withstand.

                     After 5 hours from the launch the scientists said the Laika was dead. The rocket orbits nearly 2,279 times and burns in the Earth's atmosphere. 

                        On the remembrance of Laika, Russian government opened a statue and release a stamp 

 

                         For the development of mankind in various fields we have sacrificed many lives. And it still continue!!!
